In 2024, the Open Thor Living Lab in Genk further strengthened its position as one of Europe’s leading platforms for energy innovation. Through groundbreaking projects, strong partnerships, and cutting-edge infrastructure and technologies, the living lab continued to play a key role in shaping a sustainable and integrated energy future.

Key milestones in 2024: New Infrastructure & projects

  • RENOVATION -  At ????????????, construction is in full swing, pushing boundaries in climate-neutral building research. More info.
  • HEATING -  ?????????? is breaking ground with the rollout of an innovative 5th generation district heating network to exchange heat and cold. More info.
  • DATA -  We launched the project ???????? ???? – ????????? ?? ??????? ???????? in the Open Thor Living Lab, that will add new software modules to the SmartThor data platform. More info.
  • RENOVATION - The renovation works of ???? ??? in the residential zone of the living lab are entering their final phase, bringing us closer to transforming the housing districts of New Texas and Waterschei into an energy-positive neighborhood. More info.
  • CONSTRUCTION - We celebrated the grand opening of ???????, the two identical test dwellings, a cutting-edge innovation hotspot for the construction sector. More info.
